Butterfly House Sheffield

Part of my initially proposed idea was to research and visit a venue with a suitable tropical house.

From my research, I found The Butterfly House in North Anston which is located on the outskirts of Sheffield and close to Rotherham.

I found the facility itself to be absolutely brilliant and a very enjoyable day overall.

In comparison to Chester Zoo, it was very much smaller but there were still a lot of very interesting attractions.

The entry price was also significantly cheaper than Chester Zoo. The entry fee was only £7.00 whereas Chester Zoo was £15.00 !

The main difference for me was the staff. At Chester Zoo, there are always a huge amount of visitors every day and I have always found it to be exceptionally busy whenever I have visited and I have always found it very difficult to speak to specialist members of staff.

The butterfly house was completely different, it was run on a much more informal and friendly basis and i found that all of the members of staff that I spoke to were all incredibly obliging and helpful.

The tropical butterfly house itself was very impressive and is of a similar scale to that of Chester Zoo.

In addition to the many different species of butterflies that they have on display, there are also wild birds living freely and a fascinating colony of leaf-cutter ants.

The main concern that I do have with regards to using the butterfly house as a potential source of subject matter for my project is the distance that I would have to travel.

Figure 2 shows a screen-shot from Google Maps.

To travel to the butterfly house from my house via the shortest route will take me 73 minutes and the journey would cost me nearly ten pounds each way in petrol !

This is a major concern as I am on a very tight budget this year and the time-factor is of equal concern to me.

I do not think that spending 2 hours driving every time I want to work on my project is the best use of my time.
