Where Can I Find Preserved Insect Specimens

I decided to look online to see if there is anywhere that sells preserved insects.

The first place that I found was a website called:

1. The bug maniac.com http://www.thebugmaniac.com

Figure 1 is the homepage of the bugmaniac website.

Bugmaniac are based in indonesia and have a huge array of colourful preserved insects for sale.

2. Butterflies and Things. http://www.butterfliesandthings.com

Fig-2.

Figure 2 is the homepage of Butterflies and Things, an American website based in Ohio.

They appear similar to the above bugmaniac website but they do seem to have a more professional approach in the way that they describe their products and they also appear to have a much wider selection of specimens.

Figure 3 show what they call a ''start-up'' collection.

This is a small group of perfectly preserved insects that are available to purchase with the intention of building a collection of preserved insects.

This is a great idea and I feel that this is an excellent starting point for my project.

I was not aware that it was so easy to be able to purchase such exotic specimens so freely over the internet but it appears that it is actually very easy indeed.

Figure 4 shows what is described as their ''Bee and Wasp Mini-Collection''

This is a set of 4 preserved insects, 2 Bees and 2 Wasps which are for sale as a collection for $33.00.

3. Technorati.com

The next thing that found in my Google search was an article on a website called technorati.com

Figure 5. A screenshot of my Google search for preserved insects which is giving me some really interesting ideas already.

From the first few initial searches into preserved insects, it appears that they have a wide availability online from a range of different sources and are relatively affordable as well.

This is a big factor for me as I am on an incredibly limited budget during the final few months of my study.

4. Technorati Website

Figure 6 is an article from the technorati website about a collection of  preserved insects at the Arizona State University.

It is called the Frank F Hasbrouk Insect Collection and consists of 700.000 insect specimens.

This has made me think !

Does the Manchester Museum have a similar collection of preserved insects?

This could be perfect !
