Previous Insect Photography Project - Another World

In the second semester of the first year of my degree, we were briefed on a new module called ''Directions Within Photographic Communication''.

This module was about creating a concept for a book that we would self-publish.

We would consider all of the elements throughout the entire book-making process which consisted of:

  • Devising the initial concept and having this agreed with our tutors.
  • Producing the photographic body of work.
  • Designing the layout of the book.
  • Consideration of typography and type-setting.
  • Production and printing of the book using the online book-making resource Blurb.
The concept of my book was based on my fascination with insects and macro-photography and was called ''Another World''.

I kept a highly detailed blog for my Directions Within Photographic Communications module in which I produced my book Another World.

I have a huge collection of insect photography that I have amassed over the last few years.

Some of the images are available to view online on my Flickr-Pro account in a set called ''Insects."

Figure 7. A male, Common-Blue Damselfly that I photographed last summer.

This is one of my favourite insects. I am fascinated by the colours and the incredibly intricate detail of this insect that is only one and a half inches long.

This particular Damselfly has a small fly in it's mouth that is has captured and is about to eat.

I did not notice this when i was capturing the image as it was very hard to see with the naked-eye and I only noticed it when I uploaded the image onto my computer.

This is something that i love about macro-photography. It is always full of little surprises like this.
